I am new to the sport of cycling and an avid watcher of the major bike races especially the TDF. I was wondering on an "average"
day, calm winds, on a flat stage or long segment within that stage, what would be the "average" speed (in mph) that the peleton is traveling? It appears so effortless!

When there is a break they are trying to catch, over 35+ mph.

Normally in the 25-30 range.

although it depends on the course and conditions... average speed will most often fall in this range.

Even in local group rides you'll find that the average speed on a good day to be at about 26 to 30 mph.

TdF average speeds are misleading anyway; the flat stages often start pretty slowly and build up. The speeds over the last 20k can be 55kph consistently. Unreal!
