  1. Is a 25.4 bar safe in a 25.8 clamp? I've seen shims for 25.4 in a 26.0 but if I can get away with it I'd rather not have to buy one.

    I would strongly recommend use of a shim if you must use that bar in that stem. You may get it to feel tight enough, but the consequences of slippage while riding could be devastating. The 25.8 and 26.0 are basically interchangeable but 25.4 is too small for 25.8.

    That's one of those interesting questions. I'd try it on my own bike but I wouldn't risk it on a customer bike.
