From: [email hidden] I would like a recipe for
barbecue sauce made from scratch, preferably without real
    salt or sugar.

Southerners have a mustard-brown sugar sauce which is
adjusted to taste, heating the mixture will help to combine
the ingredients. Another is listed below and is a more
    "traditional" tomato based:

    CookWare(tm) from Cooking Light(r)

    Barbecue Sauce

1 Servings 1-1/2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup water 2 tablespoons vinegar 3 tablespoons brown
sugar 2 tablespoons prepared mustard 2 teaspoons
    Worchestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients in saucepan and heat until well
blended, stirring. Use as a baste for meatloaf or whatever.
