  1. Ratherly unfortunately i'm struggling to install a simple cartridge BB. the
    method i used was:-

install plastic collar (its a cheap shimano LX jobby) about half way. Then
screwed in the main unit very nearly all the way. then tighten the plastic
collar until nearly fully installed and then fully tightened the main unit.

The problem being that i can get the plastic collar all the way in, ie.
there is 1 or 2 threads visible at the very end no matter how much tweaking,
tightening and loosening of each side I did i couldnt have the main unit
fully screwed in with out the plastic side sticking out a little.
Is this usual or is there method problem here?

    thanks

There is always a little bit of the non-drive-side cup (the plastic one)
showing for Shimano cartridge square-taper BBs. If not, you might have a
    68mm BB in a 73mm shell.

It wasn't unusual for my Truvativ BB. It included a rubber o-ring to
cover up the exposed threads on the non-drive side when using a frame
with a 68mm shell. It also specified a spacer for the drive side. Read
the instructions and check for "extra parts".

  4. most reassuring fellas, thanks. i had supposed it was correct as couldn't
see any other way of installing it.

    many thanks
