I had a go in the combined A/B race yesterday up at Oakville. There were only seven riders - well down on the usual numbers, despite perfect weather.
The group split in two at about the halfway point of the race and I was able to stay in the front group. The bad news was that I couldn't keep it up very long and dropped back to the second group. This left just two riders up front, followed by three (including myself). I guess the other two riders dropped off the back or stopped. There was no way we could catch the other group, so we sprinted for third. Needless to say, I didn't win the sprint, falling short by about a wheel.
Totally knackered, got my entry fee back for 4th and a sharp reminder of how much faster these higher grade people go! All in all, a pretty good day out. 4th might be the best result for a while when the usual numbers come back...
