Beginner needing advice

Hey there, I recommend picking up a book at the library about bikes and read 2 or 3 of them and see what they say. That's what I've done and I understand LOTS more about road bikes, touring bikes, hybrids, mountain bikes, and their intended uses.

Personally I have a cheapo wal-mart bike that I bought because it was cheap and I've been using parts off an old schwinn mountain bike to upgrade it here and there. The best mod so far has been swapping to 26x1.5" road tires that are smoother. MUCH better 😄

I don't recommend the route I'm taking. If I were to do it over again I'd buy two bikes, both used. A mountain bike with big knobby tires, and a used road or touring bike for commuting to work.

Anyhow whatever you do, be informed do some readin on the 'net and at the library and make a good decision. The wrong bike will do nothing but sit in the garage.
