I managed to put a slight bend in the seatpost (Alloy 30.9 micro-adjust) of my fairly new Rincon so that it's very difficult to adjust seat height now. I move it up and down depending on terrain now after my first inexperienced trail ride where I had the seat up fairly high like I'd have it for road riding (which is probably how I bent it in the first place). Plus I'm around 120kgs. Should I put it down to experience and just replace it with the same type now that I know to drop the seat height for the rough stuff? Or would I be better off looking at something better/stronger? If I'm capable of bending an alloy seatpost is there any chance I could break a carbon one?

You can break anything, as to being able to break a particular carbon, or alloy, or steel, or whatever post, with 'normal use', that's going to depend on the individual post. Look for one with a serious warranty, that's often a good indicator of the manufacturer's confidence in their product. Carbon can be stronger than any other material, or weaker ... it depends what it's been designed to do.

Thanks Bleve. One of my riding buddies is about the same weight as me on almost the same bike, albeit a larger frame. So far he's managed not to bend anything so I might put it down to experience and go for the same one again. Of course if it bends again I'll be more inclined to look for alternatives, but for now I'd rather destroy a $40.00 part than a $100.00 one if there's no guarantees that I'm less likely to break the dearer one anyway.
