best 26" slicks for touring?

I've got a set of el cheapo Nashbar 1.25 slicks on my roadified mtb with
dropbars that I want to use for loaded touring at some point in near future.
I've heard good things about Continental Town & Country and Tioga City
Slickers. I'm looking for longevity, puncture-resistance, fast rolling,
etc. Years ago, I had a set of Avocet slicks I loved that were stolen with
the bike. Any other rubber I should try out? TIA.

I've had good luck so far with Ritchey Tom Slick 1.4 tires on my MTB ->
road fixie conversion.

Check out Schwalbe. For loaded touring, you may not want "slicks".

For commuting I use Schwalbe Marathon Plus (26 x 1.35) for maximum
puncture resistance.

For loaded touring, which I have not done and am currenlty assembling
a bike for that purpose, I am planning to use Schwalbe Marathon XR
(26 x 1.75).

Any choice is a compromise between rolling resistance and weight on
one hand and durability, puncture resistance, traction on wet or non-
paved surfaces on the other.

Why not?

That was my thinking too. The tires I use on my 26" wheeled road bike
are Primo 26 x 1.25 but those would not be suitable IMHO for loaded
touring. They are fairly fragile.

I heard puncture resistance on these are not good, but they are fast.

When I tour on MTBs which I often do, I use Specialised Fatboys. They
are terrific. I've used them for years. Someone mentioned traction in
the wet. Slicks give the best grip on wet road surfaces, believe it or
not. You only need a tread at all for heavy mud, and it's not much good.

They're not slicks,more a tire with a standard non-knobby tread, but I
had good luck with Panaracer Pasela Tourguards in a 26 x 1.75. Used them
for two weeks/500 miles around Italy on a range of road surfaces from
good pavement to gravel, carrying camping gear.

I guess it depends on where you are touring.

I think I might encounter some muddy pavement or dirt roads where
some tread pattern might be helpful. If your trip is entirely on pavement
perhaps slicks would be the way to go
