I have two fluffballs, one white and one grey and of course, they are

Beth will soon learn that no man is ever a "boytoy". All men think the
world revolves around their own ego. Her fluffballs, her laptop and her

    bike

    Quoted message said:

will soon be a distant memory as the "boytoy" takes over her life and
monopolizes it. She will find herself nothing but an adjunct to him not
matter how wimpy she thinks he is right now. That is the way it will go

    or

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

she will soon find herself out on the street all by her lonesome once

    again.

    Quoted message said:

And those streets there in Alaska are not fit for man nor beast as every
    sensible person knows.

Since Boytoy and I have been happily cohabitating for seven years, I think
its unlikely I will learn much about him that I don't already know. Of
course, he is no wimp, or else I never would have married him. And I am
thrilled to hear you are staying far away from the streets in Alaska.

    Is cohabitating a word?

Then do not be calling him your Boytoy for heaven's sake! I strongly
disapprove of cohabitation and women are crazy to put up with it. Most men
will leave you high and dry once they really get to know you, but being
married you will find has changed things even so. As a never married man and
never having had much to do with women, I am an expert on the subject.
Listen to me and you will never go wrong. I could have been a Catholic
priest and advised the rest of the world on how to live. Positively no
cohabitation! That is a super no brainer!

The only time you would ever find me in Alaska is in July and August. The
rest of the year it is not fit for man nor beast. It is too cold and dark.
Did you not know that far northern countries have the worst drinking problem
of anywhere in the world? There is a good reason for that. The damn climate
in places like Alaska are not fit for man nor beast.

I think you are right about that. I have known several computer programmers
and heavy computer users and their spelling and grammar are simply horrible.
I think what has happened is that you get quite bright people who get into
computers but they have no real broad education. This shows every time they
write something. That is too bad as it is the sort of thing that will hold
you back in life. Very few people in the top rungs of society are
illiterate. If they were not able to get an education from their parents,
they acquired one on their own. They knew it was priceless no matter what it
cost them in terms of time, effort and money.

How are things with you? Are you still a low-slung kind of rider? <vbg>

    Beth,

Congrats and/or mazel tov on the wedding.

Good to hear that a voice of reason is still out there. Do you still
have the big, white fluff-ball? (That was said in a tone of
admiration.) I still think the dog was a better choice than Boytoy,
    but you didn't ask me.

    Ken

Hey Ken, you congratulate the male slob for having secured for himself a
partner to whom he can more or less gain some sexual access every now and
then, but you give your best wishes to the bride for her illusion that she
will be able to put up with this male slob and maybe get what she really
wants in life - which is children (and not a male slob in her life).

No one here knows or cares what mazel tov means except for all those retired
Jewish types who are living in Florida, the land of permanent high humidity.
Can anyone live there without air conditioning? I thought not!

But I think Beth lives in Alaska with the Eskimos which is even worse! It is
cold and dark there and only those who can't make it in more civilized
climes end up in places like that. How do you think the Eskimo ended up
there? They are the world's greatest losers in the lottery of life. Even the
American Indian, when he migrated to the New World across the Bering Strait
from Siberia, had enough sense not to settle down in another Siberia.

As I said before, you just drag all sorts of things into the mix, sex,
Floridians, Eskimos, Jewish types, to try to start a flame war. At
least this time you didn't call me some sort of liberal. Since you
now know that doesn't work, you'll try a different tack.

Well Ed Dolan, I have a job and a life. May I wish you the chance to
    find one or both.

And one more thing: I don't fee trolls.

    Ken

Evidentally, you don't know much about smart people, Eddie. Some people
excel in english, and grammar. Some people excel at art. Some people excel
at math and engineering. Its expected that a genius at mathematics isn't
going to be a genius at english. Doesn't make that mathematician any less
smart. In my field, people are smart at math and logic. Spelling in
english is in no way a logical endeavour.

You have not included enough of my post to which you were responding.
Therefore, I cannot be specific. Please post properly - and this means
editing properly. Normally, I do not require any editing as everything I say
is closely tied together and I know when to begin saying something and when
to stop saying something - never too much and never too little. The rest of
you could learn a great deal about how to post from closely observing and
    copying me.

One other thing: I never go back and look up anything. If it isn't in the
present post to which I am responding, then it is lost forever as far as I
am concerned. Hence, the importance of including enough in your post so that
all the ground can be covered adequately.

You should not be using a personal expression of endearment like that for
someone on a newsgroup. Others can get a completely wrong idea about you.

The Catholic priests who give pre-marital advice are getting that advice
from Church teaching which has a couple of thousand years of experience to
fall back on. There is absolutely nothing absurd about it unless you are
under the impression that only those who have direct personal experience of

Canada and Russia have a terrible alcohol problem. It is no use pretending
that it does not relate to climate and how marginal it is for human
    habitation.

I think I would still prefer July and August in Alaska provided those months
were the warmest. Minnesota has one of the worst climates in the lower 48 as
far as I am concerned. I hate cold and snow with a passion. There is nothing
I want to do on the outside in the winter, so I mostly stay inside as much
as possible. I really don't think too many people enjoy winter. It is too
late for me to leave Minnesota now, but if I had my life to live over I
would get the hell out of here for a more humane climate further south.

I think the only banana belt in Alaska would be down at Juneau. But I do

Evidentally, you don't know much about smart people, Eddie. Some people
excel in english, and grammar. Some people excel at art. Some people

    excel

    Quoted message said:

at math and engineering. Its expected that a genius at mathematics isn't
going to be a genius at english. Doesn't make that mathematician any less
smart. In my field, people are smart at math and logic. Spelling in
english is in no way a logical endeavour.

    Hope that helps!!

Some fields of learning cut across all other fields of knowledge. The use of
the language is one such field. I am not discussing the reading and writing
of great literature, but simply the correct and proper use of the language.
If you can't do this up to a certain level, then you are not smart and you
    are not educated.

Mr. Sherman for instance is an engineer, but he writes perfectly good
English. Being able to do this has gotten him where he is today. It will
carry him all his life. There is no downside to it. He is both smart and
educated and I know this about him based on the way he writes the language.

To get an idea of what I am talking about you would have to hang around
college and university faculties. If this world is foreign to you, then you
will never know what you have missed. But these are the people that read and
write and perform most of the intellectual tasks of society. I have always
found them to be both smart and educated. They would never write the kind of
really bad stuff you see everywhere on Usenet. They are incapable of it.

What I am really talking about though is the level of education you should
be in possession of right out of high school. I think everyone on this
newsgroup has that education, but they don't always practice it. Why I do
not know. Some here are just defiant of the conventions of the language.
They think they are above it and can do what they please. I reserve a
special animus for them, but I do make allowances for those who are merely
ignorant and do not know any better.

You are not bad but you could be better. Hells Bells, I could be better! If
I were writing to a community of scholars I damn well would be better. But
being better requires time and effort. So we are constantly making these
little trade-offs between what we know is right and what we think we can get
    away with.

You really should be capitalizing English for instance. I know that you know
this and yet you take a shortcut which only annoys intelligent and educated
people. You can get away with that on Usenet, but not in other realms of
life. It will get noted and it will hold you back. If you are young and want
to get ahead, take pains with how you write the language.

All this for free! No charge.

    Regards,

    Ed Dolan - Minnesota

PS. The arts and mathematics are very special fields of knowledge where
sheer raw talent will often play a leading role. But even those types can
write good every day English. They would never write like slugger for
    instance.

  20. My brother-inlaw and his wife got into the tandem thing and love it.
I've talked to my wife about getting a recumbent or trike tandem. Its
just that she doesn't have the deep desire to ride like we do. And
that's fine with me. She has never complained about my riding and in
some ways I enjoy the solitude of a nice solo ride which are probably
more than 90% of my rides. Never really got into group rides except
for the occasional charity or century ride I do each year. I will keep
pursuing the tandem course with her. Who knows maybe one of these
    years it will happen. Dom.
