Hello there; I am a 28 man with a huge frame 6'4" and and weight that yoyo between 250-300 lbs. I used to bike quite a bit and I commute by biking. I'm looking forward getting a bike that I can use to commute and ride around the city for 30-50 miles a week. Any advice for me on what brand should I get? My budget is around 350-400 and I am interested in a hybrid or a road bike (never tried them, I always used a mountain bike) Thanks in advance.

You can check this very similar thread:

Were aluminum frames common when you biked?
I've gotten the impression that heavy people tend to break their aluminum bikes.

Get chromoly or high-tensile steel, especially for the fork.

Titanium is pretty cool... But it's well into Carbon Fibre prices.

If I robbed a bank I would get:

1. An Alu Cyclocross commuter - tourer.
2. A Steel Commuter
3. An Alu racer.
4. A Carbon racer.
5. A Titanium Cyclocross something.

and many, many Jerseys!
