New policy booklet arrived today, took a closer look. They:

"...will not pay for loss or damage:

* by theft, unless the pedal cycle is in a locked building or has been
chained to something which cannot be moved and is immobilised by a
security device."

What is immobilising a bike with a security device?

A lock? Ring them up and ask for clarification. - Make a detailed note of
who you speak to and what they say as well as when you speak with them. Get
them to put the clarification in writing. Keep your notes of the
conversation with your policy - it may come in handy one day - I hope it
doesn't ;-)

Also, tell them that you are recording the conversation for your
purposes. You would be amazed at the response you get (usually the
correct answer first time as you get passed up to someone who knows).

I'd guess it's a cut 'n' paste from a clause
relevant to a different kind of vehicle :)

Having spoken to Lindsey, it doesn't mean anything. She seemed unable to
explain what that clause added over "chained to something which cannot
be moved".

She also revealed that to insure our 5 bikes (total value: £1160) would
involve an extra premium of £38. Is that good value?

All of the Unfit Family's cycles are included in the household policy as
standard - no extra premiums involved, and our bikes are worth more than a
total of £1160
