Hi guys does anyone have any advice or experience with bikes for toddlers? My daughter has aradio flyer trike but looks like it is getting too small for her. I would like her to start with a "proper" bike since she enjoys sitting on my bikes when I am doing maintenance or cleaning them.

Thanks,

Dan

For learning balance and steering and balance, at three years, a balance training bike is probably the best tool. My favorite is the Strider, reasonably priced and still rugged enough to pass on to a younger sibling or share with the neighborhood, available through this web site (http://www.mystriderbike.com/) or many local bike shops. Check out this video to see how it works.

That's a really cool concept.

yeah these images of kids falling over on a trike are what we have experienced with ours... i guess if you want something that doesn't fall you should get a pedal car or a quad bike.

We have just ordered a strider off amazon

Frankly, I'm not that down on trikes. They're fine for learning how to work the pedals, as long as the terrain is level and speeds are moderate. But a four-wheeler or a hotwheels is probably a better idea. And training wheels on a bike is just patently stupid.

All the overweening yup parents around here are getting their kids Striders, though, and their little overachievers are up on two wheels before they're five. I love it.
