Hi everyone, I need some recommendations for bike shops in the Eastern
suburbs (Boroondara area). Good honest advice is the main criteria followed
by good prices.

Thank you.

depnds a bit on style of thing you are looking for..

I its mtb/downhill its pretty hard to go past vicmtb on burke rd eas
kew. really specialise in this area and great staff (and one hotty
jenny?, too!

If its road/hybrid or family my current fave is Cycleworks Whitehorse r
Box Hill which are excellent. great range, staff and pricing i
competitive (speak to Doug-beard

Dont really have personal experience of too many others in the area
Ray's (Whorse rd) changes hand severy few years and (is it lawrenci
cycles) on Glenferrie Rd cant seem to make up its mind if it sellin
bikes or fishing gear and doing neither wel

too many other stores these days are rather blinkered as all are no
'owned' by whichever brand of bike they are affiliated to so if its
new bike youre after, perhaps do some research online first (or here fo
opinions on bikes/budgets) and then find out which store/s do the bik
youre after

If its advice/mechanics youre after (broad stereotype warning) I woul
go for a store owned by an old dude who has a couple of young guy
working out the back so you get a good range of knowledge/experience
The older guy will know setup/camapg an everything else practical lik
touring or crusing down to the shops, the younger guys are more up wit
all the trick newer stuff and most likely ride it hard too

Is he still there? That place was around when I was a kid.

Since Christy's Cycles is no longer around,
my favourite place in Boroondara is Bike
Life. They are not the cheapest but they are
very nice (big guy, Dean). They are on
Auburn Rd. now I think - I've not been to
their new store yet. I get most of my stuff
from Croydon Cycleworks now.
VicMTB sold me my mtb, but they have new
owners now and I've only been to their great
garage sales. They seem okay, maybe talk up
their gear a little bit too much. They do seem
happy to talk and let you test ride various
bikes though.

Go and see Mick Jamison at Croydon Cycleworks... he is a really switche
on guy and prices well too

Good luck

It was mostly for commuter fixes and minor
repairs, i.e. if I broke something on the commute
to work, I could get it fixed there for the ride
home. He ran an exceptional shop, IMHO,
because of his attitude and his helpfulness. He'd
often just walk out and fix my bike on the spot,
I'd pay for parts and go back to work... the
shop is up for sale/auction now.
(I was just at the Whitehorse for a pot & parma!)

It's not good... Lets just say I've been indulging
beyond what most people would consider possible...
and now I have to do the BRW this Sunday (400m
swim, 10k ride, 4k run) with basically <1 week of
"training"...

Talk about "dead meat"!

G'day Hippy

I did the BRW last year. Got conned into it because I 'ride'. How thi
transpires in some peoples minds to swimming & running is beyond me!. I
you haven't doen it before, don't let yourself be conned into bein
first up for the swim!...man that is craziness with 50 or so all goin
for it at the same time. I got kicked in the head about 3 times (& onc
in the 'Indian cricket captains') (think about it!).....take the eas
way out & be 2nd or third. The run is a cinch if you have an
pride....can't possibly stop with all these nubile lycra wearing youn
ladies about!...goodluck. naturally, we expect a report!

cheers

Hitch

PS.....If they make you put your bike in the cage overnight...take
tarp & some tent pegs to protect it from the weather

hehe I've done it before and I would've done it again last year
but I broke my collarbone so I had to watch. The problem
this year is that I had no intention of doing it. I was a half-hearted
backup. 2 weeks out, the main dude pulls out and I'm now the
one racing with no swimming or running training... pain, pain, pain!

After this weekend I'm hittin' triple kilo figures.. I'm not worried
about stopping, but the other two in my team are pretty quick
runners... doh! Better make up about 20mins in the 10k ride! :-D

Meh.. I need a new bike anyway hehehe
I'll see what I can come up with.. I can't imagine Melb
dishing out something worse than what I've already
ridden in before...
