that came before. Large, but quiet, he simply mounted his bike and rode to history. It took
Indurain three tries to finish his first Tour and two more attempts to crack the top twenty.

139:00P OLN ROAD TO THE TOUR: Bernard Hinault. Many athletes achieve phenomenal success. Fewer
transcend their own identity and are known simply as a nickname. The Badger exists in truly
rarefied air and is rightly listed with the greats of cycling. His achievements are second
only to Eddy Merckx - a remarkable feat since most consider his natural talent from an
athletic perspective to be simply just above average. But in his stubbornness, tenacity, and
sheer brute strength he was absolutely unequaled, seemingly able to win on determination
alone. Most of his greatest moments came at times of incredible physical hardship - broken
noses and black eyes to name a few. We retrace the journey of a humble beginning in the
farmland of Brittany to national icon and one of the greatest that the Tour has seen in a
century (30)
140:30P OLN ROAD TO THE TOUR: Evolution & Revolution. From wooden rims at the turn of the century
to the carbon fiber dream machines of the twenty-first century, bicycles have come a long way
in the century of the Tour de France. This program tells the story of the evolution of bicycle
technology through the Tour and focuses on the bikes of the most famous cyclists who wore the
yellow jersey. We visit the Sactuario del Ghisallo in Como Italy where Coppi and Bartali's
bikes from the Tour reside. We relive the aero-bar innovation that secured a Tour victory for
Greg LeMond. And we journey from the days of reversible wheels through wind-tunnel tested
carbon fiber aerodynamic time-trial bikes of the current era, telling the stories of men and
their machines who revolutionized the sport of cycling by trying to make gains of seconds in
the world's greatest bike race (30)
