BMA Decision Explained!

Is this the reason the BMA and many A&E staff say what they do about
cycle helmets?

"There is evidence that hospitals have difficulties distinguishing pedal
and motor cycles, and the TARN data do not show pedal cyclists as a
separate group. In Ward et al.’s (2005) London study, one of the
hospitals was unable to distinguish pedal cycles and motorcycles and
ended up by miscoding both."

I believe the majority that passed that motion at the bma reps meeting
were absolutely ignorant of the facts, not interested, fat car addicts
, thought they were rubber stamping a' good thing'.
Clearly many of them think their head is like a water melon and that's
as much as they can cope with.
These figures are quite beyond them.
They are not all of the doctors, just a proportion of those that prefer
committee meetings to riding their bikes.

I wish that idiot was local - opportunity for local press stirring -
"Dr xyz's approach to patient care - if it works on melons, it's good
enough for my patients".

Even that presupposes that strapping a helmet to the melon in
question would have made a blind bit of difference. I had a spare
melon recently and thought about trying it on camera, but couldn't
find a helmet I didn't want to keep.

My current line is "BHIT: does what it says on the tin. Cyclists
following the advice of BHIT, who are campaigning for mandatory cycle
helmets, are more likely to Be Hit according to research by the
University of Bath"
