Anyway, just need an experience eye to glace over my fit?

I had Byron from http://www.victorcycles.com.au/ in the City go over my
position but it was pretty close except for a 10mm longer stem. Cost was
around $70. Before that I'd just fiddled around with my position myself
based on articles on cyclingnews.com and a bit of time I spend with the
coaches at my club.

I saw Tim from www.cycleogical.com.au advertising bikefit in their latest
newsletter, but it was very expensive - half price @$220!

I've heard Leon Vogels does them but I can't find a contact number for him,
although there was an article on him and his brother in a recent
bicyclingaustralia mag. I think he's a physio for the Brisbane Lions so that
may be Tam's gabba contact - dunno - Tam?

Also a local coach named Nic Formosa would be able to help but I can't find
his details at the moment.

Oh yeah and were you asking about massages a while back? If you are still
looking Southbank TAFE were offering massages for $30/hr. They had a flood
of enquiries, I rang up but the only times they had available was like 8am
in the morning. I also had a really good massage from Zoe at Majestic Health
in Little James St Southbank.

<snip?
Actually it was Victor Popov, but it's probably the same clinic.

As for TAFE - They're not back in the clinic until next week (the
17th).

For a massage, check out UQ Sports and Rehab. Scott Robinson is my God.

Thanks for bringing this up. I am SO in need of a good fit - I'm SO uncomfortable on my bike. I want my old 8 speed, 59kg custom job back. I don't care if it weighs a tonne!!

Tam, Victor Popov is the guy I told you about that fitted me, to no
avail. This was some years ago, Victor's got heaps more experience now
of course. He gave me up as a bad job, reckoned my back was beyond
salvage, hence my decision to stop triathlon all those years ago. Could
turn out he was right all along at this rate :(

Heh for comfort I can't beat my hybrid, can ride that all day. The
Avanti, 1.5 hours on it today & I'm in pain again. But it's a really
nice responsive & quick bike, which is why I am persisting with it.

My old road bike was custom built and I was very comfortable on it. Back then I was riding 500km weeks and I never had a problem. I've never been comfortable on my 'new' road bike (it's *only* 3 years old).

WOW, so many replies and options. Like most people, you have a really comfortable bike, then decide to get a new one....and as much as you try to replicate your postion from the old to the new, it just don't feel quite right (that and I like to have second opionons).

Not sure who to go to, will e-moo Tam.

Keep you all updated!!!

Thanks Adam....so you think I should go see Byron. I just got myself one minted road bike, and it just given me a few ****les in the legs. I am sure it has nothing to do with last weeks 650km:rolleyes: . This Byron guy, do I have to book in to see him?

Hope to catch up on Sat. I am trying to convince others to join me on the back to back racing idea. I ride a very unique CARRERA bike with full campag record, should be the only one around.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of the Queensland Sports Medicine Clinic so maybe try them first? Having said that Byron checked all the aspects I expected him to including things like:
-saddle height, setback and tilt
-reach to the bars from the hoods and drops (including the dynamic balance test where you let go of the drops while pedalling under load around 85rpm to see if you are balanced or just teetering)
-Cleat position and foot position under load to ensure cleat float
-Shape of your back

I still sit up pretty high, I'd like to get lower but I'm short and pretty inflexible. But bikefit is a bit like religion, everyone has different beliefs, I guess you've got to find someone who works for you.

Yep you'd need to book in at all these places, takes around an hour with Byron.

Style over substance perhaps?

I haven't seen him myself but Dr Brian Mclean who is the cycling
biomechanist for the "Australian Institute of Sport" is recommended by
Darrell Llewellyn McCulloch. He shows up a HPRW club races on the odd
occasion.

Personally I'm a great believer in DIY when it comes to bike fit. It's
a lot of trial and error and takes a while but it's your body and you
know how it feels better than anybody else. Every now and then I'll
still try a small change and if it feels better I'll stick with it and
if it doesn't I'll go back.

Well then go see MAX!

T - oh so comfortable even after 7 hours in the saddle, all thanks to
Max, Giordana Endo Bibknicks, and Sportshield

I have a copy of a study around here somewhere... it determined that
some ridiculously high proportion (85%) of self-fit cyclists ride with
their saddle too high and too far back.

Lotte, I'll take you to Max if you like. I'm still a work in progress
for him, but he knows what he's talking about.

I don't know about full-on DIY, but I do believe you can work it out
yourself with help from some guides like are found on this web page:
http://www.cyclemetrics.com/Pages/FitLinks/bike_fit_links.htm

I used ErgoBike some years ago and what it gave me works just fine
(although I'm not sure if it still works). Other guides seem pretty
useful too. They will get you close to a good fit, and be a lot cheaper
than paying some physio or bike shop guru to work it out for you.

Interesting, most things I've read say most people tend to have it too
low. I think the important thing with fitting is if it hurts or doesn't
feel right change it. Some people perhaps don't know how to tell the
difference between the pain of a uncomfortable position and the pain of
having done a hard ride.

Bruce.
