BNE: Bike Fit Help

I interpreted it as those who have explicitly fitted themselves, as
opposed to just wacking the seat at some position that lets them put a
foot down while stopped a la gumby cyclists (apologies to persons here
named "gumby"!) have it too high. I certainly did, because the bike
fitting pages didn't mention anything about the ankle. After riding
another bike for a while, I went back to my roady and noticed that the
seat was uncomfortably high. I looked at another bike fitting page,
and realised that it was couple of cm too high, if I looked at either
my inseam length, or a stretched out leg with heels on the pedal.

inseam length or heels on the pedal don't take into account the length of your foot, whether it tilts up or down at the bottom of the pedal stroke and the stack height of your pedal and shoe sole. Be careful of formula. Comfort and lack of pain is the best indicator that you've got it right.

Though it is a pity that ergobike no longer works. That was interesting for the fact that it gave setup measurements using most of the common formulae - all being invariably different and proving that no one formula os ever right.

Some of the basic formulae (heel of straight leg on pedal in particular) do provide a good starting point for the novice though. I did have to raise the saddle somewhat when I got cleated pedals, so that's stack height coming into play. I *am* self fitted though so the saddle's probably too high and too far back ;)

Unfortunately, your body also changes throughout the week, after your
massage, so as you get tight here and there from sitting at your desck,
it doesn't fit you so well. I wonder how many people had a great fit
because the fitter was there correcting their posture, then they walked
out and forgot? I still do sometimes.

I read through everything that you guys listed, and dropped my seat by 5mm. I feel alot better on the bike BUT will still seek a second opinon by someone else. I agree with Tam, my comfort does depend on my flexibility and posture.
