Hi folks. I'm another newbie here..
Wanted get some feedback on Bontrager *** lite carbon clincher wheels (2006)
if anyone has had experience using them. A friend of mine if offering me these wheels, almost new at a good price.. I currently have mavic aksiums and am considering to get some race lite wheels which I can also use for regular riding..
Price-wise, d bontrager being offered to me is about 2x as much as a pair of new mavic ksyrium SL3 that i was initially considering.. The weight difference between the two is maybe 200+ grams.. I weigh only about 61kg (135lbs), is durability a big issue here considering that I dont weigh that much, ride only on well-paved roads, and do only about 150-200 kms a week?
Another set of wheels on my mind are Easton Orion II which is cheaper than d 2 above.. Many thanks for your time :) .

The jump from your Aksiums to these Bonty's is a quantum leap. There are hundreds of wheelsets in-between that might offer a more suitable match to your requirement of racing as well as regular use. The Ksyriums are a good example and as far as weight goes...they're light enough for the thousands of pro/ameteur racers who use them.

Easton, Shimano, Campy, Fulcrum etc...will all have a good mid/high-range wheel that will be light, high performance, but not such a specialist wheel as the *** Lite Clincher.

The *** Lite Carbon is a phenomenal piece of engineering...and if you were regularly racing up steep mountains...they'd be marvelous!

Save your money, get a great wheelset like the Ksyriums, Campy Eurus, Dura Ace etc etc (and there are cheaper wheels that will still be a fantastic upgrade)...then spend your savings on something else.

I appreciate your insights Walrus. Many thanks.. :)

I have been riding *** Lite Carbon Clinchers for a little over a year. They are a very nice wheel. They are especially nice for climbing. I ride mine all the time. Race, train, weekend rides, everything. The Mavics would be a good choice too. I think the ***'s are a great wheel but I would'nt stretch the budget just to have them. If the budget allows I would get them.
