You have got to be kidding me:

World road race champion Tom Boonen of Belgium will wear a gold and diamond-studded helmet on the roads of Europe this season, according to the Belga news agency.

Boonen, who rides for Quick Step, will wear the Laser-made helmet for the first time on Sunday at the opening stage of the tour of Andalucia in Spain.

The helmet, which is worth an estimated 7,000 euros, is coloured in the same rainbow style as the world champion jersey Boonen will wear this season but it is also decorated with gold and a single two-carat diamond.

Yes, I think its very much along the same lines as Jan Ullrich's new hairdo, having his helmet done up by Stfen Weseman and the whole bit.

Lets just say big Tex would never have freekin gemstones in his bike helmet.
This is like, not that thers anything actually wrong with it and all, the most girlieman thing ever. What next? tutus instead of team kits?

It gets more stupid. Bettini has one too. But anybody on Quickstep who wins a ProTour stage will get a 1 carat diamond helmet (1/2 the diamond size of Boonen/Bettini). A promo for the helmut maker.
