  1. I have a 2005 Trek 1500 with a Bontrager Race crank. If I buy an Ultegra FC-6503 crank, will it fit on my existing bottom bracket? I have no idea what kind of bottom bracket it is.

No. The bonty race uses an Isis BB (108mm for double and 118 for triple). The Ultegra 3ple (FC-6503) is an octalink.

Thanks! Any specific type of octalink BB I should buy to use with the FC-6503?

    The FC-6503 uses BB-6500 68/118.
    Example: performancebike.comprofile.cfm

Go with the bb-6500 and not the bb-5500. To me there is not much difference between the FC-5505 105 and Ultegra FC-6503 cranks but the 6500 BB is much smoother, higher quality and much better reviews as well.

    Nashbar example. nashbar.comprofile.cfm=
