using shimano sora brakes which came with the bike ,they dont seem to be very efficient and are making a scraping sound when applied with any effert there is plenty of groove left in them should i bin them any recomendations here would be apprieated please...

Probably bits of metal from the rims embedded in the pads. Pick the bits out of the pads with an awl or something pointy, and scuff them lightly with a piece of sandpaper, scrub the rims with a scouring pad.

Try different brake pads, first. For alloy rims, Swissstop green pads are my favorite. Kool-Stop's red, blue, silver, or yellow pads (they're all the same compound) would be good, too. For that matter, Dura Ace pads would be good.
