Breathable rain ware, considering purchasing gorebike (goretex) cycle trousers & jacket any views?
Waterproof/breathable stuff is typically not that breathable under heavy exertion, and can result in moisture buildup on the inside. Make sue it also has a number of proper vents to help get rid of moisture.Originally posted by justin case

look at burley. it is cheeper and may be better. goretex only does so so keeping out the rain. the burley has really good venting. ithink this is far more key then anything else. the more vents the less you will sweat like a roasted pig (G) I have not bought rain pants yet.Originally posted by justin case

I have had several gortex jackets. after a good amount of rain they get wet on the inside. not much but some. I can't remember if my goretex militarty coat let moisture through. once i waterproofed them with nikewax they are better. Maybe I have not tried the highest end goretex.Originally posted by gubaguba
I have been wearing gortex since it came out. So so hardly. I guess thats why Marmont, Northface and others continue to use it in there premium garments. White water rafted in my Marmont Jacket Cat 5 rapids everything was wet but what was under the jacket.

I use a goretex jacket, made by mountain designs, which cost alot (AUS$450) but i have had it for 3 years now and it is indestructable. I used it daily for 2 years as a bike courier in the winter and yes, it can get sweaty, but hey, you are wearing a jacket, so you have to expect some sweat. Its better than getting wet from the rain. Remember to wash it and spray it every year (and iron it every so often) and it will last for years.
Actually, gortex needs sprayed with nothing, and I would not iron it either.Originally posted by Spider1977
What do you spray it with? When I iron mine I get some white beads coming up even at low temperature, is this normal? My jacket is about 15 years old, but has served me well.
Properly made gortex in good condition does not leak, unless subjected to extreme and possibly unusual circumstances. nikewax or whatever, only works on the outside fabric. If the gortex has become worn or the seams come unsealed, which happens with use,it will still leak.Originally posted by stevek

but for biking ventelation is the key thing. the more you can vent the less sweat on the inside.
my goretex gets wet through the coth after a bunch of rain. this is on a coat I would be wearing when caught in the rain. I was still warm but the coat was not just wet on the outside.Originally posted by boudreaux
