My son has an IslaBike Luath 26 and the shifter has been damaged (Shimano STI 8 Speed), the window that shows you what gear you are in is missing. Can the shifter be repaired or does it need to be replaced? Where is the best place to get either parts or replacements for this component?

Thanks,

Bob

FWIW. While the "lens" does keep some unwanted stuff out of the shifter's actual mechanism, it is otherwise not important to the shifter's ability to function ...

Consequently, I recommend that you simply cut a replacement "lens" from the clear vacuum plastic packaging that most items come in, now...

Secure with either clear packing tape and/or some SHOE GOO or some clear tube-and-tile caulk/sealant.

Shimano is pretty good at keeping small parts as spares. If it's listed as a separate part on the Shimano website for tech documents, then you should be able to order one through your bicycle store. I recently got some for a Nexus shifter, for about 15 USD.
