After my rather catastrophic rim failure on my rear wheel just before Christmas a spoke broke on my front wheel this evening. The original wheels on this Dawes Galaxy really are c**p.
I have never had spokes fail on a front wheel before. It just went with a ping as I was riding along. I was not leaning to one side or standing up at the time.
Has anybody else had front spokes fail before?

Yep, only last week ...... 15 year old wheel, never been out of true, and as you say 'ping' although I was sprinting alone for the 30mph sign (a £5000 bonus, in my head of course, which I won :-O )
It happens. possible corroded nipple, spoke can't flex hence the 'ping'.gave me a chance to clean and service the wheel/hub whilst fitting a new spoke (now got one gleaming shiny new spoke)
A number of years ago I rode my Super Galaxy into the back of a parked car at around 30mph, folding it neatly in half. Both wheels remained perfectly true, and the front (Alesa 917 / Shimano LX) was pressed into service on my commuting bike.
About 20,000 miles later, one spoke went *ping*. I was _just_riding_along_.
