Trek, it pains me that a college student from the northeast would choose to affiliate themselves with the Evil Cabal. Let's hope your bleeding heart liberal professors knock some sense into you in the next few years.

Not happening, I go to college in the South (but don't worry, in high school I had to listen to it. I didn't give in. SORRY YOU DID). But, I can at least thank you for giving me your reasons.

Trek, just incase you haven't noticed...This individual has multiple personalities and his/her posts are examples of the best campaign ads we could ever wish for. For this is an example of the lunacy that makes up the Democratic party...The Democratic party has been hijacked by a bunch of left wing nut jobs!

Contrary to what the republicans on this forum continue to carp about, there presently is no left wing in US politics. You have essentially a two party system. The Reps are currently on the extreme, neo-con, presently- bordering-on-fascist right and consequently the Dems have been pulled to center right to try and scoop up moderate Rep votes. Still, if your open to it, the "left wing" all you republicans are so terrified of does exist in places like Holland, the Sweden, Norway etc. oh and Canada. (and it's really not that bad, we still have free markets, we still are allowed to screw over the little guy to make our millions, but generally, as a culture its more compassionate.) Yeah, its pretty dire there in the great white north. what with the accessible health care, and tolerant points of view. I don't know how we sleep with so many reds under our beds.

Why is “liberal” such a derogatory word in the US anyway? Can someone explain why in a free society a term denoting free-thinking is so vilified?

Because conservatives like to equate "liberals" as immoral, pacifist, godless, communist/socialist, evil, sinners in league with, oh I don't know....SATAN [insert Churchlady voice with reverb].

Actually, I think many conservatives are simply jealous of free-thinkers and their free-wheeling lives. They WANT to enjoy life, but can't because their "morality" keeps them repressed.

They, especially men, like the heirarchical structure that tells them-especially women-what they can & can't do. This is the same for other regions, as well, where the women are repressed all in the name of...you finish the sentence. Alot of them tend to beleive that they must be instructed to do what is right, by other's, that it is out of their capacity to make decisions for themselves. Much like belonging to a political party or religion. When i mention to people that i don't practice any religion, they remark-" why are'nt you out raping & plundering, to your heart's content?" I reply that i don't have any inclination to do those sort's of things. I also don't feel any inclination to join a large entrenched political party to make decisions for me either

I overheard someone talking at a restaurant right before the Afghanistan War, "Those Taliban have the right idea; too bad they don't believe in the right god." I'm guessing he wasn't a liberal....

I think you might ask the repub's on the board. They are the one's that villified it, w/ the help of that dope fiend-what's his name-oh yeah, rush.
I still get the urge to wash out my mouth everytime i have to say the word republican. It did'nt used to be that way, Lincoln (one of my heroes) was one of the 1st repub's but w/ the neocon's taking over the party has done this. I heard as much on the radio today. This woman called in c-span & said that she was defecting to the democrats for the aforementioned reason(the neocon's & their PNAC agenda.) after devoting 56 yrs. to grass roots organizing. It's sad.

The more I look at this Presidential race, it appears to me that the process of electing the President is in fact - undemocratic.

Huge amounts of money are required to run for President.
Kerry has raised $200 million - Bush raised $ 140 million in 2000.
So I expect Bush to hit in or around $ 200 million also.

How do both candidates get this level of money ?
What compromises do they have to make in order to fund their respective elections ?

We know that Bush made compromises to Ken Lay and Enron.
But whose to say that Kerry won't make similar promises ?

Lobbyists/interest groups operate around both candidates.
Paying the Piper, it's called.

The process of the election is premised upon funding.
So what is the funding premised upon ?

That's why i'm an independent because, as things now stand, lobbyist's are writing the legislation behind closed doors. There was the McCain/Feingold bill but that probably does'nt go far enough. And one party is'nt willing to give up the $ unless the other party follow's suit, so it's a never ending cycle of corruption. They are forced to make some nefarious quid pro quo in return for these "donations" (read--bribes) The individuals (us) are left out of the process, the only exception being the ability to vote. Even that right now stands in the balance w/ companies like diebold refusing to make their code avail. for scrutiny. Their leaders even indicated that they side w/ the republicans politically. How are we supposed to have confidence in a system that is not open to public scrutiny & the people who manufacture the machines side w/ a particular party. It would be the same if they sided w/ dem's. I don't want them siding w/ anybody. Just make the machines & keep your mouth's shut & make the code avail., to an independant body, for verification purposes. Without paper ballots, how are we sure our votes are being tabulated correctly or tabulated at all

MAN this is a lenthly thread, and I couldnt read it all, But all I have to say is this, to [try] and make it smple-

Bush is a moron. He doesnt seem to be very well read, he made Cs in harvard, his dad got him out of nam. We have lost 3 millon jobs. Bush has NOT done a good job at all in the war on terror. Sending troops into iraq will do nothing but get us into a big **** hole of a mess. We could use all this money and all these troops and resuorces to secure the borders, [so the terorists cant get in in the firs place.] does that make sense??? You cant just kill the terrorists, because theres gona be more, and more. YOU JUST CANT kill them all, I mean gime a ****** break. If honestly think you think you can just kill them all you are severly full of **** and ignorant. Or maybe he went into Iraq beacause of oil. Think about this, he is a greedy, rich, texas oil man who got him self itno office, not because he wanted to make america better, but to gain more power that he could use that to his advantage to make more money. HE Killied the inocent in the process.[of going into iraq] War is ugly, a horrible thing, and should be used as a last resort. And that fghting for our freedom **** was over in WW2. Iraq was not a threat to us. This is where the question arises. Is bush really ****** stupid or is he evil? I think is both, more evil than stupid. Every thing bush stands for is so so wrong. hopefully kerry, if he gets elected, will be half way decent and start to turn this country around. I have been thinking, and clinton was a great presedint and a brilliant man. He did alot of good things [like prevent a nuclear war between india and pakastan.] Our country seemed to be doin pretty damn good while he was in office. Then bush came and every thing turned to ****.

I know alot of people [might] say that those are pretty big words coming out of a 14 year olds mouth and that I dont ****, but oh well. And it looks like kerry is in the lead!

Even thou you're young, you seem to have a very good grasp of bush's (don't forget cheney!) evil agenda. I, also, think he's bad for the country & nothing would make me happier than to see both of them & their evil cabinet leave Washington for good. :) I'd rather have a chimp, in there, pushing a yes or no button & we'd probably (based on statistics & probability) come out in better shape than based on their decisions. I'm being completely serious here. And you are right, we are on page 103(?)

I'm curious, how does one force religious beliefs down anothers throat  Sounds like a reeeeal good plan.........not !!! Democracy doe'snt sound like your cup of tea, it appears totalitarianism/dictatorship or authoritarianism are more in line w/ your & coulters thinking, no ? If she posessed intelligence, i would fear her. She's got to be working for either the republican party or the devil, in that order of descending evil

Don't be coy. You know how it works. I'm sure you've had things forced down your throat in the FagHag hotel.

And Wednesday, we shall remember who our enemies are.

No, seriously, describe how you or Anne Cult-her would go about forcing someone to believe in something, especially religion. :confused:Oh, i almost forgot, thanks for the vieled threat  Incidentally, who are "we shall remember..."Sounds exactly like something Nixon would have said, genius. Bush won't have a mandate because has so polarized/alienated the electorate. He only represent's @ 30% of the population. Bravo Georgie. Tell you what, if Kerry wins, i won't seek revenge, as you have just stated you will do.

This is someones last chance to be the first to post a thread denouncing the credibility of the vote count. I am sure someone will.
After watching the last few days of campaigning I have come to the conclusion that one candidate suffers from gross stupidity and the other one enjoys his.
You make the choice!
