buy new or slightly used road bike

Does anyone have advise on what bike I should purchase? I would like to start training on a road bike again after ten years but am not sure which way to go. I was originally looking at a new Trek 1000 but a buddy of mine mentioned that he has a Giant TCR 2 which only has 200 miles on, that he would sell for $800.00. It comes with the pedals, cateye and bottle holders as well. The fact that it is not new makes me a little nervous but he paid $1,300.00 for it about 4 years ago. If it is a good bike should I perhaps see if he can lower the price?

IMO, $800 is a little much for a 4 year old TCR. I'm not sure the specs of his TCR but quite a bit has changed in the past 4 years. If it fits you, is in great shape, and has better components on it than the 1000 has then perhaps it would be worth buying if he comes down on price some.
I would probably just buy the 1000 though, its a great bike, at a great price.
