Hi

I am about to start serious training to complete 160km cycle challenge in New Zealand. I have not serious ridden a bike for 20 years but still competant. I am classified as a novice rider and have seeked advice from various qualified experts.

I am seriously looking at the Merida range as it is stocked by the local bike shop. The decision I need help on is purchasing a carbon fibre road bike, that is light and fast versus a cross trainer bike to do this bike challenge. Majority of advise is to purchase a good road bike but with bad knees - the cross trainer offers lower gear ratio and more comfort. Would appreciate feedback as I am not experienced in the bike world and do not want to make the wrong decision.:D
