I'm considering a trip from san fran to san diego and hen east into the desert starting in early february. any comments on the weather? i understand it can be rainy, but the temps seem ok. also curious about riding east from san diego, not sure of terrain (mountain bike or road bike) i'd love any feedback you might have.

I did the tour from Davis to Ventura co. last winter at the end of January. The weather got better and better the further south i got. Riding on the Big Sur Portion was the finest I've ever done on or off road. The only tricky part of the tour was surface road navigation (no bikes allowed on the 1 which is freeway only here) from Santa Cruz to just north of Monterea(sp). I managed on dead reckoning and the sparce signage for the coast bike route.
Enjoy the tour, look for whales, savor Big Sur.
