I know there are decals you can buy, is there any good type of tape I can use in the cable rub areas, that wont mess up paint on a expensive bike?

Mylar tape. Most LBS should have this.

I use good old electrical tape. The plastic it's made from is good enough to protect against rubs, and the adhesive is weak enough so that there's no chance it'll damage paint on removal.
And if you're lucky on the colour of your bike (and the tape), it's invisible 🙂

HiI just use this stuff, comes in transperant and carbon finish

I cross the cables in front, then cross them back under the down tube. Don't have any rubbing issues, and the shifting is perfect.
