I know that topics on shimano vs campag have been posted before but I have two very specific question. I currently run Shimano Ultegra and am about to change some of my gear to campag, however my wheels are only 9 months old and only shimano compatible and I already run a FSA crank which is campag compatible. So,

Apart from the spacing of the cassette is there any reason that a campag 10 speed derailleur and ergo shifters wont work with a shimano 10 speed chain and cassette (spaced for campag).

And will a shimano ultegra front derailleur work with 10 speed ergo power shifters. (will be looking to change out the front derailleur down the track but need to know whether it will work in the short term).

    Thanks

i did the same thing, went from 9speed ultegra to chorus/record group the chain will work fine. and the front der will work fine as well. You will need a modified cassette for the campy spaceing, or get this http://jtekengineering.com/shiftmate.htm i got the shiftmate...

See my post in this recent short thread for a variety of possbilities, but I suspect you already know most of this:

You will be fine with what you propose (campy-spaced shimano cassette) and shimano 10s chain. Otherwise, you can go with a shiftmate. Campy Ergo can shift any front derailleur.

The front der will work. Even a shimano 105 9s model will work with an ergo 10s.

Kestrel12- I just went through the conversion you're describing and what I found is described here:
    http://www.cyclingforums.com/t317248-campy-shifters-with-shimano-components.html

Also, don't assume you can just change your spacers and get a Campy equivalent cassette. A Campy 10S freehub is approximately 2mm wider than Shimano 10S, and with Campy spacers on a Shimano freehub you may run out of room for the smallest cog. I ended up changing freehubs and then re-dishing the wheel.

    Cheers! - nojiri
