Rumor on the campyonly website is a 12spd Record version for 2006.

Anyone have any "insider" knowledge or any guesses at how they are gonna pull this one off??? All I can say is if they can fit 12 cogs on the current hubs I'll be damn impressed!!!

I think they are going back to six cogs on the back and 2 on the front... this will allow them to use a more efficient chain with longer life, and remove much of the dish from the rear wheel... Retro grouches will all move to Campy, and techie's with the posuer CF will flock to Shimano. Everyone wins.

No seriously though I mean I like having ten cogs (love having a 16) but it is already borderline too much. Better off coming up with some kind of CV drivetrain than adding two more gears on the back IMO.

Don't worry, gear escalation will continue!

I read somewhere (cannot find where) that Shimano has already deposited a patent for a 14 gear cassette!
