Campy chainrings

I'm a believer in chain watchers. Deda Dog Fang, Third Eye, N Gear
Jump Stop. Helps when there is a large jump between the middle and
inner rings on triples. Helps on doubles too.

The 42 will work fine. Everyone, Shimano too, has specific middle or
inner rings to go with outer rings. Labeled A or B. Unlikely you
would ever notice any difference. I've put on a 39 ring in place of
my 42 on my double once in a turquoise moon. Rings on my double are
matched 53-42 supposedly. Never noticed any difference in shifting.

With Ergo shifters, you can easily do the 42-26 shift. A middle ring
with pins and ramps to help the chain from the inner to the middle
would be beneficial.

I have installed 26t onto otherwise 52(3)/42/30 Campag triples with no
problem encountered. Just put it on, it will be fine.

Agreed. They weigh only a few grams, and can keep you from dropping
your chain in a downshift. There doesn't seem to be a downside.

I suspect that is so they can sell two rings to people who only really
need one.
