  1. Hi everyone, I'm thinking about replacing the Force 40 cantilever brakes on my 1994 Cannondale; however, I'm not sure how to work around the old setup.

The current brake system has a spring-loaded "button" mounted on the frame that handles the centering of the housing and the cable adjustments. The problem is: the button and its spring are in bad shape.

I want to upgrade to a set of Shimano cantilevers, but I don't know how to get the brake cable mounted and centered above the cantilevers since I won't be using the "button" anymore.

    Here's a photo:

    Any solutions? Thanks.

  2. I would go for V-Brakes, and a new set of V brake levers, more effecient and cheaper. 😉
