Can I use 2001 Mirage Ergos to shift Shim 8 spd?

Hello there.

Can I use my 2001 9spd Mirage Ergos and 2001 medium cage Veloce rear
derailleur to shift a Shimano 8 spd cassette?

ONLY if you put in shimano 9s spacers...Gotta make the casette '9s'
spaced somehow. OR replace the shift disc with an 8s one and then use a
shimano 8s cogset.

If you replace the Shimano 8sp x 3.0 mm spacers with Campy 2.8 mm
spacers it will likely work. You may need a single spacer of ~2 mm to
make up for the extra space.

If you use those levers with a Shimano RD and Hubbubb the cable
(http://www.hubbub.com/articles_ergopower.html), they shift a Shimano
8sp cassette perfectly. This is the setup my Mom has on her tourer -
9sp Mirage levers, Shimano RSX long-cage RD with a Hubbubbed cable, and
a Performance 8sp 12-32 cassette.

maybe but a handful of spacers is far cheaper....
