Can I use a 9spd Chainset with an 8spd setup ?

You'll be alright with a 9sp chainset. 9sp chain is narrower overall but
internal width is practically the same.

Should be OK. An 8 speed chain will run around it fine.

However, OLN of 130 is for a road bike, 135 is for mountain bikes. You can
get lots of 9 speed hubs for 130 OLN (in fact most are advertised as 8/9
speed). The difference between Shimano 8 and 9 speed cassettes is in the cog
spacing (and therefore gear shifter indexing).

I use 8 speed chainset with 9 speed! It works well. No problem at all for
you with a 9 spd c/set with 8 spd chain. Your 8 spd chain is wider.
