This is basically an 808 vs 404 question. I'm researching new wheels for road racing and need all the help I can get, so I figure deeper is better regarding Zipp wheels.
I'm sure this has been gone over before, but I'm after information specific to the Zipp wheels, as I understand their profile is such that deeper rims aren't necessarily that much of a handful in breezes.
I have other wheels I can use if there is too much wind, but for your average inland day at the races with maybe a slight wind would the 808 offer more than it takes in terms of aerodynamics?
I saw in the roues artisanales website that the 808 only offers 3 watts lower drag than the 404, so I'm wondering if the risk of wind-related handling issues is greater than the marginal aero saving.
Since most of the racing is on flat or rolling terrain weigh isn't an issue. I'm wondering if deeper wheels - which seem to be gaining popularity in the pro bunches - really can offer me tangible benefits over what is now the standard 404 depth.
