Can you combine short and long intervals!!

Hi guys, I've been doing the famous 2 * 20min intervals for about three months now and have been quite impressed with the results. As a third cat racer I want to try and start 'placing' so I feel I need to do some harder shorter intervals (3-8mins). Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can combine both long and short interval sessions in my rides. I currently race once at the weekend and train twice a week doing 2*20min time trial efforts and an additional endurance (zone 2) session. Cheers Toks
