  1. I've got a bike with cantilevers (Shimano R550, if anybody cares), and
I'd like to replace the pads. These seem to have the brake pads pinned
in, and I'm guessing they can be pulled out if I can figure how to get
those pins out. Anybody have a hint for the clueless newbie?

Pull the pin out of the top of the pad, slide new pad in and replace
the pin that often comes with new pads OR replace the whole banana with
a new pad with all the hardware. Go see a decent bike shop, they should
    help and have the pads.
