I was considering upgrading the seat post on my Trek 2200 to carbon. My cycling buddy said carbon seat posts tend to slip in AL frames. Is this really an issue?

Depends on the frame and seatpost. Only way to find out is to try it though. Don't use any grease at all (clean out the seat tube before inserting the post with alcohol or something like that--make sure there is no grease residue left in there) and then tighten the binder bolt to the proper torque that the seatpost requires--don't tighten beyond that though, as this can cause damage to the post.
