cassette mix and match

Is it possible to mix and match individual cogs from a Shimano 8 speed cassette with a Shimano 9
speed? That is, are the individual cogs the same width, just with different sized spacers? Thanks

shimano 9s cogs are 1.78mm, 8s cogs are 1.8mm so the answer is yes, just make the spacers
8s or 9s...
