I have an Android phone I want to use as a cycling computer, but I need a holder for it. Currently using a Samsung Galaxy Avant. What kind of holders can I get to mount it on my handlebar while I ride?

I use an iPhone, but you could do something similar. First off, I use an OtterBox all the time, with the belt clip. On the bike, I took my wife's OtterBox belt clip, since she wasn't using it, and drilled a hole through it (a smaller hole in the clip itself, then a larger one through the flat back of the holder so that I could get a screwdriver through the back) so that I could screw it to a handlebar mount I had laying around.

Just one way of doing it.

I've thought about doing that but my case won't hold my phone with the display out. ...but i am setting my case up to where I have straps on the back.

I stick mine in my jersey pocket and use a garmin

is a cell phone really the best tool for the job?

While I won't say a smartphone is better than a dedicated cyclocomputer or any other cycling aid that can be attached to a bike, I will say that there are times I would rather have a Leatherman's "knife" over my electricians' tool belt, but one is not to replace the other. For my riding, strapping my cell phone to my handlebar looks like the best solution for me. Your Garmin probably cost me what my phone cost me and "there's an app for that." Use your favorite tool while I'll use mine. ;)

Here is a youtube video ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rUw0ZuPbss This looks like a good option.

Don't know anything about them but its a start. Like you I would like to use my android phone rather than having to purchase another devise. What app are you using?

Right now I'm combing PlayStore and downloading anything and everything that looks like it may have potential...

I am using Map My RIde and I am pretty happy with it. However, I have never had a cyclocomputer. With Map My Ride I can see a map of the route I rode, distance traveled, calories burned, duration of ride, and the speed; minimum speed, max speed and average speed. It shows the splits pace/ speed for each mile. It also shows the elevation gain; both minimum and max elevation along with a graph. If you have a heart rate monitor that you can sync with your phone it will also give you you average heart rate and max heart rate.

It keeps a history of your rides and if you have friends who ride you can see their rides also. It is a pretty good app.

MotionX GPS, MapMyRide, Endomondo, Strava...and I'm sure there are others. They've all evolved to provide about the same information, with some minor differences. Most also have free and paid versions, so you can at least try out the basic features for free then decide that if you really like one of them, pay for the upgrade. Some of them have a one-time purchase fee (Endomondo) and some are subscription based (Strava).
