Chain rubbing against the mech cage?

I have a double chainset and 8 speed cassette.
When using the small chain ring and the 4 smallest sprockets, the chain rubs against the mech cage on the front derailleur. As I understand it, I should expect a certain amount when/if using the smallest 2, but surely not the smallest 4?

1) Maybe you shouldn't cross chain.
2) Can you trim your FD?
Or possibly 3) Poorly adjusted derailleurs/gears.
