Hi, is it normal practice to have to shorten the chain that is supplied with a groupset. This is a double crank 9 speed set up but the chain is hanging down when it is on the smallest chain ring.. Thanks

You have to set the chain length to your bike size AND groupset. Poke around online, and you should find some literature for your groupset, which should tell you how to properly set the chain length--it should show you what your rear derailleur should look like in a certain position to take up the slack in the chain. The chain should not ever sag.

Because:
- Not every frame has the same length chainstays ...
- Not every drivetrain has the same chainrings & cassette ...
- Not every rear derailleur has the same length pulley cage
- Not every frame has the same length chainstays ...

Thanks for your info.I found a piece on you tube with a guy from cycling magazine, which seemed the best way from all the ones I looked at and used his method so it is ok now. Thanks
