Hi,

Newbie and first post, please be gentle :)

I have an old road bike that I'd like to upgrade to flat bars.

Can someone advise me what my options are wrt which thumb shifters and brake handles to buy to replace the current Sora STI shifters.

The current groupset is Sora components everywhere with an 8x3 gear setup (although only a 2 ring chainset (more later!)

I had naively assumed that all I needed to do would be to buy MTB shifters and brake levers (I would have just gone and bought Acera shifter/brake handle combos). From a little reading here I've learned that not all Shimano shifters are compatible with my Sora derailleurs and that the leverage on MTB v brake levers is different from road bike levers.

Very grateful for any advice on what to buy, I'm looking to do this on a budget until I'm sure I'm going to stick with this and decide to buy a better bike.

Also, I'd like to change the 2 ring Sora Chainset to a 3 ring. Do I just buy the 3 ring Sora Chainwheel or is there more to it than that ?

Apologies for the newbie questions. Thanks in advance for your help.
