  1. Hi,
I have recently purchased a "96 Silva Eclipse GSP" compass. On closer
inspection, every single place where there is a hole, stencil holes, lanyard
connection etc. there is a small line which looks like a crack. They are on
the baseplate above and below. It is difficult to see whether it goes
straight through. If you have one of these compasses, do you notice the same
    thing?

The manufacturer claims it is to do with the moulding process which, might
be true but I'm sure is avoidable. I wonder if all manufacturers are
    affected by this problem.

    Cheers

    Peter.

It does sound like a moulding seam to me, the halves of any mould will
leave a ridge when they are separated. It would add to the cost to
    machine them off before sale.

    Possibly, though at a cost

What you describe isn't a problem at all. Not even slightly. It's
purely cosmetic, and you won't even notice after it's been in your
rucksack getting scratched for a few days!
