Well its done now. Paid the entry fee, raised a heap for Children's Cancer Institute Australia, cleaned the bike and packed the bag.

All that I have to do now is get on the bike at 0700 on Thursday morning and ride to Cairns with 200 other riders.
    Day 1 Townsville - Ingham 110k
    Day 2 Ingham - Inisfail 165k
    Day 3 Inisfail - Cairns 90k
Will try to put something here after the ride but the standard of reports here is very high so might be shamed.
Understand that riders coming from Perth and 5 from NZ.

Sure to be some funny stuff happen with such a big bunch.

Spoke today to the guys (6 ?) riding from Bris to Cairns for Skitzophrenia or bi polar or whatever. They are sore and tired and looking forward to getting to Cairns on Thursday.
Apparently there was a frightening incident with a Semi on the outskirts of Bris on day 1 and nothing noteworthy since.

    Cheers
    Hugh

Have a great time Hugh. This is one of the rides I have bookmarked for those moments at work when I look out the window and wish I was elsewhere :)

Have fun, keep safe, and I for one will be looking forward to the report on your return.

    cheers,
    Ali

Good stuff Hugh! May the wind be at your back & those semi's behave themselves. Look further to your return & a ride report. :)

Yep it is fun because you ride with a group that goes at the speed you want to go.

Terrain is 99% flat but 15 km out of Ingham is the Cardwell Range. Bad news is that it has the steepest gradient on Bruce Highway from Brisvegas to Cairns. Good news is that it is only a 100m pinch, the rest is quite OK. From the top there is a spectacular view of Hinchinbrook Island and the Channel.

We will be wearing black armbands as tribute to AIS Womens Cycling Team when we leave Townsville. On arrival in Cairns will pay respect in memory of motorbike cop killed near Sarina Q a couple of weeks ago. He was our Police escort into Cairns last year and volunteered his time.

    Thanks for the good wishes.

    Hugh

Not particularly although there is one very bad one between Ingham and
Cardwell. Not so bad from the Townsville side but you need to think
very carefully before riding down the other side (hairpins, around 7%
average grade). Never tried to ride up from the Cairns side (just too
dangerous with the trucks). The road is dead though and pretty rough in
places. And there are caravans everywhere with very impatitent drivers
    caught behind them.

Maybe next year (need a lot more k's) best I could do was to donate to
    someone on the ride.

    Cheers
