Have a great set of FSA Team Issue carbon cranks. At the ends where the pedals screw in there are some chips and flaking of the clear protective coat (carbon material is fine). Any suggestions for touching up the chips? The are bigger thyan something that clear nail polish would handle. Not really looking for an aesthetic solution, I'm more concerned with stopping the flaking. I am considering something like poly-urethane, but don't want to do any damage to the underlying material. Thanks in advance for advice!

Urethane or epoxy resin would be fine for that. You answered the big question in that the material is undammaged. Chances are, the original layups of carbon were epoxied together, but the top gelcoat may or may not be the same stuff. Urethane uses a non-volatile(though not healty) solvent that won't attack the epoxies or materials involved.
