choosing between 2012 Norco Charger 9.2 and 2013 Giant Revel

Hi All,

I am new to Mountain Biking and choosing between 2012 Norco Charger 9.2 and the 2013 Giant Revel. I have ridden both briefly and they seem comfortable enough. The Norco is on offer but still $80 more than the Giant. Both 29 ers.

being new to the sport my aim is to do a short adventure race soon with an MB section about 20k, then want to use the bike for mix of trail and paved routes.

The only difference I can see in the specs is that the Giant has manual disk brakes while the Norco has hydraulic disks.

Is there any real difference in quality or brand value between the above bikes?

Giant is a global brand, you get authorised distributors everywhere, which is good for warranty and such, i hear that hydraulic discs brakes are more complex to service than mechanical disc brakes, 80 usd. shouldn't be a decision maker for buying one or the other, its really not worth it, just buy the one you like best !

Personally i like the Norco better, but yes it really just depends on your personal preference.
