Civil Unrest in France, What Gives?

*IF* I was going to spend stupid sums of money on Italian cars for posing I would probably go for a Lamborghini Miura. Maybe 10 years ago I would have even done just that, but these days I would rather sink that kind of money into a decent house and a business that can be run from the home and lets me take 2 months off at a time for some touring. :)
The Citroen Maserati, that Burt Reynolds 'borrowed' :D from his girlfreind, in the original version of the movie-"The Longest Yard". Anybody know what model that was

Citroen SM. There was one that used to troll around Tunbridge Wells.

I agree. IT is unfortunate that most of the people that can afford those cars are fat middle aged guys that cant drive. :D

Regardless of whether the owner can drive the problem with a lot of those motors is that they spend a lot of time being serviced... Miuras for example use a derivative of a F1 motor, so they do about 25-35K miles then have a dollar per mile rebuild... The alternative to that kind of pain would be to get a Pantera, but that won't have the girlie wow factor... ;)

My dad had one for a while. I have been tempted to buy one and to fix up, but the Cobra sucked the life out of me. My friend (trust fund baby) has the Garala? spyder. makes me sick. Turn key go really fast. I could afford the insurance on it....maybe. The new thing here is high end go carts. $2000 play formula one driver all year:)

de Tomaso Pantera, a man after my own heart.

when i was a kid i was really into fast cars due to a Top Trumps deck that i had when i was six.

so when i was 18 i was gonna have a Pantera, GT40, Esprit Turbo (4 cylinder not the V8) and a Lambo Countach and hopefully be saving up for a Aston Martin Bulldog.

you've been married for too long...

when you hit 50 your wife will tell you to get a Lambo just to prove that you are still good in bed.

they say that middle aged men buy fast cars to compensate for being rather poor in bed....me on the other hand, i have the opposite problem. I've just put a 5 quid downpayment on a lovely '88 Fiat Panda. Which of course makes me a love machine...

MP, when you get to 50 you look at a nice machine and remark about the great wheels, the power it must have and the quick turning and drool over it......of course it is a lawn mower I am speaking of.
Priorities change.
I wanted a convertible Audi TT or a Honda 240 ,but my wife told me in would be too small so I settled for an A4 with a sunroof,,,, but someday!

to small? its got 2 seats....youre not taking the kids for a spin in the TT are you?

its just the right size, tell you wife it is for romantic weekends, just the two of you...she'll soon come round.

Speaking of lawnmowers, i spotted a rig called a 'Junglebuster' in my local garden shop. Its not a lawn mower as such, as the name suggests its for clearing out over grown areas that have been neglected for several decades. Takes down weeds, trees and bushes up to 20 feet in height.

I have utterly no need for one but i was thinking of taking it for a test drive...

See,it is already happening to you "domestication". I suppose there are worse things.
Actually the A4 is a pretty sweet ride or I would not have bought it.

You can pick up Pantera's pretty cheap tbh and they seem to
run OK as well. The examples I saw trotting around T.Wells were
a GTS and a GT5s, they were in very good condition were very
*loud* on the *very* rare occasion I saw the guy lift them out
of idle. Most of the owners I've talked to seemed very happy
with their Panteras - but they were also people who liked stripping
yank V8s. :)

The thing is I didn't notice girlies heads turning as they went by,
the same went for the new Lambo. The head turners were TVRs
(no surprise there), Aston-Martins DB8s, DB9s, and XK8s.

Love the audi. AWD is nice. The evo8 and suburu sti are all the rage right now. Tuners are getting 500hp at the wheels . The Pantera has a clevland motor and a zf trans axel. The clevland is old. Fords aftermarket is designed around the windsor. That an easy swap though if you dont care about the car being collectable. Mid engine is the best. I agree with MP. In nice shape it still has the girlie factor. Hey DB if you buy a pantera ,I have a spare fuel injeted windsor Ill sell you:)

we have a specialist in jap awd imports near where i live. Most of them are modified and i purchased an Evo8 which was tuned to 420ish bhp.

it was very very fast but i sold it in Septmeber back to the dealer. The insurance costs and fuel were just killing me financially. Plus its isnt the most practical family car.

i bought a Lancer Sport wagon '05 which is more sensible. Still a quick motor with the same 2.0 DOHC engine as the evo but withut the turbo charger. Its top of the range with the Evo cockpit and MOMO steering wheel, its all full of Yokohama, Calsonic etc, and leather/alu clad fiddly bits.
when i am 50 i'll buy another evo but rumours are that the Evo IX that you see in the UK right now is the last of the breed. Mistu have some really absurd ideas about street going rally cars for the future.

Good new however is that the EvoIX has a wagon model, only avalable in Jap land right now but may come to the UK in the summer of 06. I will definatly get one if this is the case, its the same body as my Lancer sport but has the monster evo engine....0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds...for a wagon (estate) that feckin fast...possiley the fastest in production.

anyway, how about this **** in France....(the riots not the cars)

Yes I have the Quattro it works nicely and take a look at the 2007 A8 with the 10 cylinder. It should be a screamer with 450 hp.

You have a Quattro, JH ?
Nice car.

I've been fortunate to be able to afford Audi cars for the past 12 years or so and have driven nothing but Audi since then.
I haven't driven a Quattro though.

Nice car, i'd imagine ?
