we have a specialist in jap awd imports near where i live. Most of them are modified and i purchased an Evo8 which was tuned to 420ish bhp.
it was very very fast but i sold it in Septmeber back to the dealer. The insurance costs and fuel were just killing me financially. Plus its isnt the most practical family car.
i bought a Lancer Sport wagon '05 which is more sensible. Still a quick motor with the same 2.0 DOHC engine as the evo but withut the turbo charger. Its top of the range with the Evo cockpit and MOMO steering wheel, its all full of Yokohama, Calsonic etc, and leather/alu clad fiddly bits.
when i am 50 i'll buy another evo but rumours are that the Evo IX that you see in the UK right now is the last of the breed. Mistu have some really absurd ideas about street going rally cars for the future.
Good new however is that the EvoIX has a wagon model, only avalable in Jap land right now but may come to the UK in the summer of 06. I will definatly get one if this is the case, its the same body as my Lancer sport but has the monster evo engine....0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds...for a wagon (estate) that feckin fast...possiley the fastest in production.
